The Special Olympics USA Games were held June 14-21 2014 in Princeton, NJ, with about 3,500 athletes competing in all different sports. Katy Sanchez of Pearl River proudly represented Team New York in the triathlon, which features swimming, biking and running. She earned a bronze medal.
“Being part of the Special Olympics USA Games…helped me to become a better athlete and a role model to other Special Olympics athletes in Rockland County,” Sanchez said.
She is now a Special Olympics New York global messenger (Hudson Valley Region). She wants to spread the love of the Special Olympics games around the world. “I had an awesome time there,” she said.
Sanchez’s final time was one hour and 16 minutes (1:16).
