Carl Wortendyke hosted GOP gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino at his home this past weekend, helping the resurgent underdog to raise many thousands of dollars.
Astorino’s challenger, incumbent Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo, has become enmeshed in a major scandal due to his alleged obstruction of the anti-corruption Moreland Commission. Astorino may have a window to make a move in the campaign if he can get his name out there. Polls show the GOP candidate suffers from a lack of name recognition and with a relatively light campaign war chest, Astorino will have to figure something out to make himself a household name.
Some Republicans in attendance at the Astorino fundraiser were Rockland County Executive Ed Day, County Chairman Vincent Reda, Supreme Court Justice candidate Michael Koplen, Astorino’s chief campaign adviser and Suffern-native Michael Lawler, Carl and Martin Wortendyke, among dozens of others.
Independence Party member Richard Brega, a generous donor to many political campaigns, was on hand, as well.
