16 CLARKSTOWN BUSINESSES CAUGHT MAKING ILLEGAL ALCOHOL SALES TO MINORS

The SMART Sales Unit of the Clarkstown Police Department conducts monthly enforcement compliance checks of local licensed retailers of alcohol products and conducts subsequent court ordered educational classes in the safe and lawful sale of these products.

CPD announced that this week so far the the Clarkstown Police SMART Sales Unit in conjunction with Officers of the Rockland County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (SPCC) utilizing underage undercover agents conducted alcohol compliance checks of 113 local businesses in the Town of Clarkstown. Of these 113 businesses, 97 were found to be in compliance throughout the township.

Sixteen businesses were cited for selling alcohol to minors:

Valley Cottage:
United Food Mart at 486 Kings Highway

New City:
Citgo Mart at 364 New Hempstead Road
Little Tor Liquors at 267 S. Little Tor Road
Master Mart at 233 S. Main Street
Shoprite at 66 N. Main Street
Stop & Shop at 180 N. Main Street
Walgreens at 31 Calvary Drive

Nanuet:
7 Eleven at 85 E. Route 59
Buy Wise Liquor at 61 Rockland Center
Comfort Mart at 35 N. Middletown Road
Gulf Express at 1 E. Route 59

West Nyack:
Mobil on Run at 116 N. Route 303

Palisades Center Mall:
Lucky Strike

Employees of these businesses were arrested and charged with the Class A misdemeanor of unlawfully dealing with a child, first degree and released on appearance tickets with return court dates at Clarkstown Justice Court. First time offenders are given the opportunity to attend a diversion program by attending an alcohol sale awareness class and having their criminal charges adjourned in contemplation of dismissal and subsequently dismissed if there are no reoccurring violations in six months.

Businesses and their owners are scrutinized for proper compliance to the NYS Liquor Authority regulations in terms of law, policy, supervision and training. NYS Liquor Authority Referrals have been made on the two businesses with reoccurring violations:

Gulf Express in Nanuet and Mobil on Run in West Nyack.

A hearing is pending to review the matter that may result in substantial fine and suspension or revocation of their liquor license.
