Nanuet man arrested for 2013 sexual assault

Stony Point – Police arrested a Nanuet man on Thursday in connection to a rape allegedly perpetrated against a Stony Point teen about a year ago.

Stephen J. Coyle, 34, was arrested and charged with first-degree rape, third-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child. According to police, Coyle was a friend of the girl’s family when the incident occurred in August 2013.

The girl waited almost a year before reporting the incident and police began an investigation in March of this year. Her family has since moved out of state, but returned to Stony Point to give a statement to police.

Coyle was released on $5,000 bail pending a court appearance at 2 p.m. today.
