Cosgriff Hose Co. 4, Haverstraw, will host the 102nd annual convention of the Rockland County Volunteer Firemen’s Association at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5 at the Haverstraw Knights of Columbus Hall on West Broad St. in Haverstraw Village. Cogriff Hose is celebrating over a century of service to the community by hosting the convention and subsequent parade this year.
John Intreiri of Volunteer Hose Co. 2, West Haverstraw FD is running unopposed for re-election as association president. Nick Gatti of the Piermont FD is the lone nominee for election as first vice president as is Chris Nau of Columbian Engine Co., Spring Valley FD as the new second VP. The balance of the unopposed slate is John Kryger (West Haverstraw FD), corresponding secretary; Bruce McClintock (Suffern FD), recording secretary; Robert Capello (Spring Valley FD), financial secretary; and Mike Kramar (Hillcrest FD), treasurer.
A memorial service will be held for all association members who have died since the last convention, and life membership and longevity certificates will be distributed to 25 and 50-year association members respectively. A highlight of the evening will be the awarding of the Cordes Lucus/Emmett Sweeney Memorial Award, better known as the Firefighter of the Year award, and the Joseph K. Wright Memorial Unit Citation Award. The Rockland County Fire Instructors’ Association will present its two Lt. Andrew Fredericks Memorial scholarships as well.
The convention parade in Haverstraw Village steps off at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6. The parade starts at West St. and Fairmont Ave., continues north along Broadway to Westside Ave. to Hudson Ave. to New Main St. to Maple Ave to Ferry Landing.
