Michael E. LaFrancois , 24, 0f 36 Peck St., West Haverstraw, has been arrested on charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree (a C felony), criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree.

The defendant was arrested, processed, arraigned and remanded to the Rockland County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail.  The patrol was assisted by funding  from the PTS (Police Traffic Services) grant program through the Governor’s Traffic Safety Board.

An associate of LaFrancois and then LaFrancois himself called the Rockland County Times to claim the most serious charge against him-third degree felony possession of  a controlled substance-had been dropped.

The District Attorney’s Office and the Stony Point PD said this assertion was inaccurate and that LaFrancois still faces felony possession charges for 77.6 grams of heroin.

LaFrancois does not have a driver’s license due to a previous DUI conviction.

UPDATE – LaFrancois has since been indicted by a grand jury
