Fire hits senior citizen’s home just before Thanksgiving

On Monday, November 24 at 8 a.m., the Clarkstown Police Department responded to 16 Forest View Court in Valley Cottage for a report of a structure fire.

The single family home had flames coming from the rear of the home when the patrol units responded. The only occupant, female, 67, of Valley Cottage, was safely evacuated from the home when two Clarkstown police officers forcibly gained access to the home.

The occupant was sleeping at the time of the fire and did not sustain any injuries. The flames were extinguished by Valley Cottage FD. Congers FD also responded to the scene.

The fire did not appear to be suspicious. The cause has not yet been determined.
