On Sunday Dec. 7, 2 p.m. at West Haverstraw Village Hall, Chris Jensen, program coordinator of the Rockland County Office of Emergency ServiceHe will discuss potential hazards relevant to our area and look at probability, focusing on individual preparedness and display “go kits.” He will review family emergency plans, discuss government’s role in providing food, shelter and service in the aftermath of a disaster. He will also focus on local, county, state and federal roles in a disaster.
Other speakers include Gene Reynolds from Orange and Rockland Utilities and Nanci Banninger from the Red Cross. Mayor of West Haverstraw John Ramundo will give opening remarks.
Panel discussions will be held on:
– Coping with long term power outages, blizzards
– Cooking with no refrigeration including recipes using dried milk, etc.
– Kitchen gas stoves
– Advice for emergency phones that can survive blackouts.
