Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland has partnered with Professional Disposables, Inc (PDI) , sister company Nice-Pak Products (Nice-Pak) and Subaru this holiday season to help put an end to senior hunger. A “stuff the trunk” event was held Friday, November 21 at the PDI/Nice-Pak annual Turkey Bowl holiday gathering. PDI and Nice-Pak associates prepared and donated over 50 “blizzard bags” of non-perishable foods for homebound individuals. Blizzard bags are used for Meals on Wheels’ emergency shelf-stable food program that ensures homebound recipients have a sufficient supply of non-perishable food items in case of emergencies, such as inclement winter weather. The blizzard bags were stuffed into Subaru trunks as part of Meals on Wheels’ “stuff the trunk” and Subaru’s “Share the Love” Campaigns.
Subaru’s “Share the Love” event is designed for Subaru dealers to give back to their local communities, running from November 20, 2014 through January 2, 2015. Subaru donates $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased during this time period to the customer’s choice of charities, including Meals on Wheels. As an event charitable partner, Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland is eligible to earn grant monies of up to $35,000. “Grants are an integral part of our agency’s effort to provide nutritious meals to Rockland County homebound seniors in need,” said Madelyn Schiering, agency Grants & Communications director.
“We are honored to be part of ‘Share the Love’ for a seventh straight year,” said Meals on Wheels Association of America President and CEO Ellie Hollander. “Subaru recognizes the importance of giving back to the communities it serves. Working together, Meals on Wheels and Subaru are helping to provide more than just a meal; we’re bringing warmth and compassion to so many hungry and homebound seniors who would otherwise go without.”
