WATCH OUT FROSTY! Orange County man accused of stealing inflatable snowman ornament in Blauvelt

Beware Rocklanders, your holiday lawn ornaments might not be safe.

Orangetown PD reports that 4:25 a.m. this morning an officer observed a 2005 Dodge Caravan parked in front of a home on Sunset Rd. in Blauvelt. What he next saw was a surprise.

OPD claims that Jeffrey J. Meyers, 41, of Walden was hiding behind the Caravan holding a large inflatable snowman lawn ornament, which they believe he had stolen moments earlier from the front lawn of a Sunset Rd. home.

The owner of the home came outside after he was awakened by his barking dog and confirmed that the property was his. The homeowner also provided the officer with a video from his surveillance system that clearly showed the suspect walking onto his lawn, unplugging the inflatable snow man and carrying it to his vehicle, police said.

Meyers was taken to OPD headquarters in Orangeburg, where he was charged with petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree (misdemeanors) and trespassing (violation). The suspect was released on an appearance ticket and is due in Orangetown Court on January 7, 2015.

If any Orangetown residents have experienced similar thefts recently of lawn ornaments they are asked to call the Orangetown Police Detective Bureau at 845-359-2121.
