The booze was still moving through 37-year-old Jeffrey Burton’s system at 6 a.m. Sunday morning, Orangetown police say.
The 144 Call Hollow Rd., Pomona resident was arrested on Rt 9W in Sparkill, south Rockland Sunday, December 28, as dawn was about to crack. Police said Burton was driving a 2008 Mercedes Benz northbound when he drove off the roadway and crashed into a stone wall at the entrance to the Rockland Country Club in Sparkill.
An OPD officer determined that Burton was driving while under the influence of alcohol and he failed field sobriety checks. At OPD Headquarters he provided a breath sample and police say his BAC registered more than .08 percent.
That wasn’t the end of his trouble. Police say a check with New York State DMV revealed that subjects NYS Driverโs License was suspended four times including a suspension for driving while ability impaired by alcohol in April, 2014. Burton was arrested on felony DWI charges and felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle charges, was released on $100 bail and is due in Orangetown Court on January 28, 2015.
