Suspect in custody after stabbing at Spring Valley High School

SPRING VALLEY โ€“ A 17-year old student at Spring Valley High School was stabbed multiple times following an altercation with another 16-year old student on Tuesday morning, sustaining serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The incident began shortly before 8:45 a.m. when the two students-who reportedly knew each other and had prior history of conflict-entered into an argument. At the height of the conflict, the suspect repeatedly stabbed the victim, inflicting multiple wounds to his schoolmate’s arm, back, shoulder and side before the victim managed to run outside and the suspect fled.

After the school was placed on lockdown, police with the Spring Valley Police Department and the County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene to secure the premises and gathered evidence for a forensic investigation. Examination of the school grounds continued well into the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. After he identified his alleged attacker by name, the other student was arrested at his Spring Valley home later that morning. He will likely face charges for felony assault. [Update–the accused attacker was charged with attempted murder]

Another altercation was also reported to have occurred between the alleged assailant and a friend of the victim. No injuries were reported as a consequence of that conflict and no charges have been levied.
