To the editor,
Once upon a time, in a land far away, the populace was told that the tax of gas would go to maintain the highways. As this is obviously not the case any longer, then the taxes on gas should be eliminated. Moreover, since it is no longer the responsibility of the government for the costs to its taxpayers, the very least that this government should provide for the lack of pothole repair is to allow its citizens to deduct the costs for repairs on their income tax returns. This, despite the fact that the taxes on gas are no longer allowed as deductions on the income tax returns, should be a non sequitur.
Sincerely,
Joseph R. Human
