Rockland County Executive Ed Day Tuesday recognized 21 police officers who have made a significant impact in supporting local efforts to eliminate drunk driving.
In 2014, a total of 867 people were arrested in Rockland County for driving while intoxicated.
โ867 DWI-related arrests were made by law enforcement agencies in Rockland County in 2014, as compared to 803 in 2013,โ said County Executive Day. โThese numbers demonstrate that our local law enforcement agencies are working hard to remove irresponsible motorists that choose to drive drunk on our roads and endanger innocent lives.โ
For the second consecutive year, Spring Valley Police Officer Yakov Polowin was named municipal โTop Copโ for making 28 DWI arrests in 2014. New York State Police Trooper Frank Rose of Troop F earned the โTop Trooperโ designation for securing 25 DWI arrests last year. Rockland County Sheriffโs Officer Robert Moger was awarded โTop Sheriffโ honors for collaring 16 drunk drivers in 2014.
Each of the honorees secured more than 10 drunk driving arrests on Rockland County roadways in 2014.
Additional officers from police departments in Clarkstown, Ramapo, Spring Valley, Orangetown, South Nyack/Grandview and the New York State Park Police were honored for removing impaired motorists from our roadways.
โRocklandโs annual STOP-DWI awards honor individual law enforcement officers for their outstanding achievements in deterring drunk and impaired driving,โ said Day. โOn behalf of all the residents of Rockland County, I thank you for a job well done. Your professionalism and dedication keep offenders off the roads and keep our families safe.โ
โThank you to all of our dedicated police officers for enforcing Rocklandโs zero tolerance policy,โ said STOP-DWI Coordinator Leslie Chernin. โWe will continue to educate our young people and members of the community on the risks and fatal consequences of drinking and driving.โ
