Charles Hacker, 63, residing at 46 Lackawanna Trail, Montebello, was indicted on April 15 by a Rockland County Grand Jury for the crimes of Insurance Fraud in the third degree, falsely reporting an incident in the third degree and making a false written statement.
District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe stated that between about August 29 and September 10, 2014, the defendant gratuitously reported to the Ramapo Police Department that his wifeโs diamond pendant had been stolen, possibly by their housekeepers who came to his house weekly.ย The Defendant made the report as required to support an insurance claim to Allstate for payment for the lost/stolen diamond; the police report was provided to the Allstate agent.
On or about September 3, 2014, Allstate sent a check for $7,350 to the defendant to settle the claim.ย Meanwhile, a Ramapo detective determined that the defendant sold a loose pear-shaped 1.60 CT TW diamond at Clarkstown Coin & Jewelry on June 17, 2014, which was 10 weeks prior to the claim. On September 10, 2014 the defendant returned to the Ramapo Police Department and signed a deposition stating, among other statements, that he had not sold or pawned any jewelry within the last year.ย The defendant will be arranged April 29.
