NANUET – Quick thinking by Clarkstown Police netted two men who now stand accused of stealing and attempting to sell gas meter parts belonging to Orange and Rockland.
Antonio Antonetti, 33, and Adolphe Fedler, 31, both of Spring Valley, were arrested on Monday after they allegedly swiped the parts, which were valued at about $1,000, from a construction site on Second Avenue in Nanuet.
Though police did not arrive in time to catch the suspects at the scene of the theft, they did manage to foresee their next move. One officer anticipated that sale of the parts might occur at Teplitz scrap metal yard on West Nyack Road in Nanuet.
The guess paid off when police at the scrapyard later identified a white jeep which matched the description of a suspicious vehicle reported at the scene of the theft. A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up the stolen parts, which were confirmed to belong to O&R after a company rep was called to the scene.
Antonetti and Fedler face charges of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony. They are due back in court on June 24.
