PRESS RELEASE

The Town of Ramapo will open its new ice skating/hockey rink at Provident Bank Park this weekend.

The opening ceremony, being held Saturday, December 12, will mark the second season of outdoor skating at the baseball stadium in Pomona. The opening night festivities begin with free open skating with Santa (ice skates can be rented for $4) from 2-4 p.m. Skaters from the Skating Club of New York & the U.S. Figure Skating Association will also take to the ice at 4:45 p.m., followed by a tree lighting ceremony at 5:15 p.m. There will then be a second session of skating beginning at 6 p.m. that runs to 8 p.m. (regular fees apply).

“This season we will be featuring a full-size hockey rink located on the first-base side of the field, so teams can play hockey and their fans can sit right up close to the action,” said Michelle Antosca, director of Parks and Recreation, Town of Ramapo. “The rink is also available for rent by community groups, schools, not-for-profits and businesses for unique winter events. There are also plenty of open skating opportunities through February 2016.”

There are several special events planned throughout the season. Here is a list of a few upcoming special days:

January 11: Nyack/Tappan Zee Vs. Fox Lane (4:30 pm)
January 30: Clarkstown North (5 p.m. & 7 p.m.)
February 2: Pearl River High School (5 p.m.)

The ice skating park features a large warming tent adjacent to the rink, plenty of drinks and snacks available for purchase during open skating. A Men’s Hockey League is also being formed. For more information and a complete schedule, visit www.RamapoParks.org.
