A statement from Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C,I-Deerpark)
โI am pleased to see that Gov. Cuomoโs Common Core Task Force is moving further and further away from the originally implemented Common Core Standards. I have worked tirelessly in the legislature to advocate on behalf of parents, teachers and students who have been unfairly alienated in the rigid pursuit of this curriculum. We have to give control back to our classrooms and allow teachers latitude to implement their curriculum and do what they see best for their students. Common Core in its current form does none of that.
โStudent test scores should in no way count toward teacher evaluations because many teachers are still struggling to implement the standards and adopt new educational techniques that Common Core requires. I am proud to have supported New York parentsโ choice to opt-out last year and I will continue to fight for a more responsible state education policy during this yearโs Legislative Session.โ
