Cortland senior midfielder Tara Monaghan of Stony Point and junior goalie Jaclyn Beshlian of Wantagh were named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Monaghan, a graduate of North Rockland High School, helped lead the nationally top-ranked Red Dragons to a pair of wins, totaling 11 goals, seven ground balls and nine draw controls. In a 14-6 victory at William Smith, Monaghan scored three goals, won three draws and collected six ground balls. In a 19-9 win at Fredonia in the SUNYAC opener for both teams, she matched her career high with eight goals and won six draws.
Monaghan leads Cortland with 42 points on a team-best 35 goals and seven assists, with a team-high 24 ground balls, and a second-best 27 draws. The Red Dragons, who are 10-0 overall and 2-0 in the SUNYAC, travel to Geneseo on Saturday at 3 p.m.
