IMG_0737This is the Roman Catholic Church’s Year of Mercy, and every weekend, Catholics attend church to hear how they can make the world a better place by treating each other with more peace, love and understanding.

What made the weekend of April 16 extra special was Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s visit to the Salesian Marian Shrine/Don Bosco Retreat Center in Stony Point. Dolan, the leader of 2.8 million Catholics in the Archdiocese of New York, said Mass for the faithful who came from around the mid-Hudson, entreating them to go into their communities with “an open heart, kindness and compassion and go the extra mile when you do it.”

Following the services, Dolan was surrounded by the faithful, who took selfies with the affable priest and shared a few poignant moments sharing their delight at his visit. “What a blessed day it was and a gift to be able to hear Cardinal Dolan preach the word of God to his flock,” said Stony Point resident Tanya Thompson Tennent.
