Everyย Stony Pointerย knew Edward Onderdonk.
Be it as an electrician, EMT, friend or two-timeย political candidate, he was one of those personalities who helps give aย town its identity.
Tragically, monthsย after making a second run for Stony Point councilman in 2013, Onderdonk was beset by brain cancer. Theย struggle lasted over two yearsย but Onderdonk passed awayย this week.
Keith Rosario posted to social media on behalf of the North Rockland emergencyย responders community: “North Rockland & the entire EMS community [have] suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of Eddie Onderdonk. We will never forget your devotion, sacrifice, leadership and friendship. Our hearts go out to your family during this difficult time. Each of us share countless memories of your joyful smile even during the most difficult of times. Rest in Peace Brother…..God Speed!”
Onderdonk also is rememberedย for his work with the Boy Scouts and Little League, and for his 30 years as a volunteer member of theย Ambulance Corps. He was a journeyman wireman with the IBEW local 363 union chapter.
The specific cause of death has not beenย announced, but Onderdonk was known to be fighting cancer.
