COUNTY OFFERING FREE HEALTHY LIVING WORKSHOPS

Do you have concerns about falling? Are you at risk for type 2 diabetes? Do you want to better manage your type 2 diabetes?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, Rockland County Executive Ed Day and County Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert recommend that you take one of the Health Departmentโ€™s free workshop series to help you reach your goal of living a healthier lifestyle. Youโ€™ll gain the skills you need to make lifestyle changes to: help prevent or delay developing type 2 diabetes; better manage your type 2 diabetes; prevent a fall; and improve the quality of your life. Register now and take charge of your health!

Diabetes Prevention Program: Learn how you can prevent or delay type 2 diabetes if you are at risk for diabetes or have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes. The next free 16-session workshop series begins on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 3:30 โ€“ 4:30 p.m. in Haverstraw.

Living Well with Diabetes: Learn how to better self-manage your type 2 diabetes and reduce the risk of complications. The next free 6-week workshop series will be held on Wednesdays, from 1 โ€“ 3:30 p.m., from August 31 to October 5, in Garnerville.

A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls: Learn how to reduce your fear and risk of falling, and simple exercises to increase your strength and balance. The next free eight-week fall-prevention programs will be held:
Thursdays, from 2 โ€“ 4 p.m., September 8 to October 27, 2016, in Garnerville
Fridays, from 10:15 a.m. โ€“ 12:15 p.m., September 16 to November 4, 2016, in Pearl River
โ€œReceive support and encouragement from both the workshop leaders and your fellow classmates as you develop a plan for improving and maintaining your overall well-being,โ€ said Dr. Ruppert.
