Rockland Youth Orchestra kicks off its sixth season October 19. The Orchestra takes students through an over three month long series of Wednesday evening rehearsals, culminating in a public concert with a day, date, and location to be announced.

RYO is open to students who have performed solos for the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA). Scores involving 26 out of 28 points at NYSSMA Levels III and IV, or scores of 94 out of 100 on NYSSMA Levels V and
VI, guarantee admission into the ensemble. Students who have not done solos for NYSSMA may become members of Rockland Youth Orchestra with the permission of its directors. RYO is open to students who play violin, viola, cello, or double bass.

Literature to be explored during season six with RYO include “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the “Brook Green Suite” by Gustav Holst, “O Magnum Mysterium” by Morten Lauridsen and “Postcards from Russia” arranged by Carrie Lane Gruselle.

Tuition is $160. Sibling discounts, half scholarships, and full scholarships are available for qualified applicants. The rehearsals will take place at Highview Elementary School on 24 Highview Avenue in Nanuet. Registration for RYO can be done on its website rocklandyouthorchestra.weebly.com or by phone @ 845-270-5480.
