The 2016 Helen Hayes Hospital Classic Race on Sunday, October 16 is less than a month away and the West Haverstraw-based physical rehabilitation hospital is gearing up for a very special new take on the inspirational annual event. Presented for the first time in partnership with the Town of Haverstraw at Bowline Point Park/Peckโs Pond, an expanded race format and beautiful new location will allow for even more community members and athletes of all abilities to come together for friendly competition and family fun to benefit the Helen Hayes Hospital Foundation.
The 2016 Classic Race events will include Fun Run, 5k, and 10k races, as well as a harvest-themed family fun day. Family fun day activities will include pumpkin painting, arts and crafts, costumed character meet and greets, games, refreshments, prize/raffle opportunities and more. Attendees are also invited to enjoy Bowline Point Parkโs playgrounds and to wear their Halloween costumes to get into the spirit of fall.
Top finisher awards will be presented to racers in a number of categories, including male and female runners, handcyclists, and wheelchair racers. For the third year, the Niles M. Davies Jr. Kids Cup will also be awarded to the Fun Run winner in honor of one of the Classicโs staunchest supporters, the late Niles M. Davies, Jr.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Helen Hayes Hospital Foundation. The Foundation supports an array of patient programs, services and research at the physical rehabilitation hospital.
