NORTH ROCKLAND’S NEW CRAZE: Pickleball

Pickleball: the fun game with the funny name is beginning its first season at The Marian Shrine gymnasium.

Pickleball is widely considered one of the fastest growing sports in the country with well over 200,000 active players in all 50 states and over 4,000 places to play.

Pickleball is a racquet sport, which combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.

It is played with a paddle and a plastic ball. The court is about 1/3 the size of a tennis court so there is a much smaller area for each player to cover.

Clinics and play are held at the Marion Shrine Gymnasium. Presently, North Rocklanders play on Tuesday. Additional days and times may be added. Paddles and balls are provided by the Pickleball group.

Join Pickleball fanatics for some fun & exercise any Tuesday6-9 p.m. at Marian Shrine gymnasium, 174 Filors Lane, Stony Point. Beginners are welcome.

Contact: Rich Henry (USAPA Ambassador) for more information at 914-204-2904 or Email – [email protected]. There is a $10 fee for pickleballers to cover the expenses of the gym and equipment.
