The NYS – DOT issued a road closure alert following a traffic accident and sink hole incident near the intersection of Rt. 202 and Thiells-Mount Ivy Rd. in the Town of Haverstraw. Rt. 202 is only closed from the short stretch from Thiell-Mt Ivy to Rt. 45, but congestion in the area is severe.
A car hit a fire hydrant around 5 a.m. causing a water blast and then a sinkhole. Authorities currently expect clean up and repairs to be sufficient for the road to reopen by noon, however, stay tuned for any updates.
