Ellen Jaffee Appointed to Assembly Education Committee

PRESS RELEASE- Assemblymember Ellen Jaffee (D-Suffern) announced Wednesday her appointment by Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to the Assembly Education Committee.

โ€œAs a strong advocate for public education, my top priorities this legislative session will continue to be significant funding for public schools and ensuring all children, from Pre-K through college, get an equal, high-quality education that will prepare them for good jobs and successful careers,โ€ Jaffee said. โ€œThe number of students in our classrooms, the quality of our curriculum, programs, and support services must be held to the highest standards. Investing in education and fully-phasing in Foundation Aid will improve our schools, sustain our families, and reduce the shameful inequality that exists in school districts across our state.โ€

Regent Judith Johnson said, โ€œThe children and families in New York State will be well-served by Ellenโ€™s newest appointment. She brings to the work her commitment to education policies that prepare our children to choose pathways that can lead to a fulfilling life as contributing citizens. On a personal level, I am pleased Ellen and I will have new opportunities to work together on legislative priorities that expand and enrich our stateโ€™s educational agenda.โ€

โ€œIn these times when public education is under attack, investing in education is essential because everyone benefits,โ€ Jaffee said. โ€œIf we do not provide adequate funding for our public education system, we compromise our childrenโ€™s future, the future of New York State and the nation.โ€
