Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann this week announced the inaugural opening of the Farmers Market to be held on the Townโs historic Traphagen property located at 131 Germonds Road, West Nyack. The farmers market will be the first in the area coordinated by a municipality and hosted on a historical landmark. Town leaders plan for the market to be an annual event.
โThis Farmers Market will not only highlight local and regional vendors, but solidify Clarkstownโs leadership in the the county as the number one place to do business,โ said Supervisor Hoehmann.ย โThe market will give our residents access to agricultural products and return this unique and historic property to its roots as a farm.ย I canโt think of a better place to spend aย Saturdayย morning.โ
โI think it’s wonderful that Clarkstown will finally have its very own Farmer’s Market,โ said Clarkstown Superintendent of Recreation and Parks Elaine Apfelbaum. ย โI am very excited to help launch this and many other new programs being offered by the Clarkstown Recreation & Parks Department.โ
Officials will mark the opening of the Farmers Market with a ribbon cutting ceremony onย Saturday, June 17thย atย 11:15am.
The market will be open Saturdays fromย 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.ย fromย June 17 – October 28, giving local businesses an opportunity to share their products with residents and visitors.ย Vendors at the market will be selling vegetables, fruits, flowers, herbs, fresh eggs and other farm fresh products.
Startup expenses for the market will be covered by a grant from the Rockland County Health Department through their Healthy Kids initiative.
The Traphagen property includes the 1791 Vanderbilt-Budke House and the 1820 Traphagen House, and was recently added to the New York State Register of Historic Places.ย Supervisor Hoehmann has made it one of his priorities to restore and renovate the houses and property to preserve our history for future generations.ย Supervisor Hoehmann worked receive $500,000 in grants to restore the Traphagen Property that includes the Vanderbilt-Budke House.
