This weekend June 16-18, 2017, Nyack will host the 12th annual Art Walk event, where local artists each create one art piece in their respective medium that speaks to a specific theme.
Throughout the course of a weekend in June, artists will be present in various Nyack shops to meet, discuss, and sell their art. “The times they are a-changing” is the theme for this year’s event.
Event chair Paulette Ross believes that change is an essential element of the human experience, and whether negative or positive, it acts as a catalyst to our growth. Ross and her colleagues in the artistic community staunchly believe that art is a perfect medium for expressing change throughout our lives. This year, the event will be honoring U.S. Veterans and to represent the event a most amazing piece by Walt Nygard, a former corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, has been chosen.
Nygard is a member of Combat Paper NJ and his work is a linocut printed and enhanced on paper made from deconstructed fibers of military uniforms which are reduced to pulp and dried to create a unique, handmade paper. Nygard’s piece will debut in Veterans Park on Nyack’s Main Street on Saturday, June 17 at 12 noon. Local Veterans organizations have been invited to participate in the event.
