WEATHER THIS WEEK: July 7 – 13

Forecast by Zachary Jacomowitz

Hello, Rockland County! I hope that your 4th of July weekend was fun, enjoyable, and safe. As we head deeper into the summer, the weather remains an important aspect in our daily lives since so many events and activities take place outdoors. With that said, let’s get to the forecast.

An area of low pressure moves into southern Ontario and Quebec on Friday. The effect this has on our weather here in Rockland County will be an increased threat for showers and storms. Current computer models still disagree on the exact timing of the rain. Afternoon rain will result in cooler temperatures while morning rain will allow the temperatures to climb by the peak heating of the day. I’m going with highs near 80° for that reason.

Saturday is looking unsettled as well, especially during the first half of the day. Showers could be moving through thanks to a frontal system. Highs will be in the upper 70s to low 80s after rebounding from near 70° for a morning low. Sunday is looking sunny and refreshing. It’ll be refreshing in the sense that the cold front that moved through Saturday will usher in less humid air thanks to a more northwesterly flow. Expect highs on Sunday to be in the low 80s, but again, with low humidity. Morning lows on Sunday will be in the low 60s. The humidity could creep back up on Monday, along with the temperatures. Expect highs to be in the mid-80s. Skies will be partly cloudy as a low pressure system will over the Midwest and Great Lakes region. A stray shower or storm is possible, but as of now, unlikely.

The temperatures look to soar on Tuesday out ahead of a cold front thanks to a southwesterly flow. High temperatures could approach 90°, perhaps even the low 90s. Afternoon storms are possible as the front nears from our north and west. The front moves through overnight into Wednesday. Currently, computer forecast models differ for Wednesday. If the front clears by the afternoon, expect highs in the 80s, but if the front does not clear, highs will be stuck in the 70s. So for now, expect highs in the upper 70s to near 80° with a shower or two, possible.

For Thursday, a storm system could give us some rain, along with cool temperatures only in the 70s. Again, I hope you have an enjoyable holiday weekend, and with that said, enjoy the weather, and be safe!
