Forecast by Zachary Jacomowitz
Hello, Rockland County! I hope that your week has been nothing short of great. The weather sure has been hot, muggy, and uncomfortable, especially for those of you spending time outdoors. Well, let’s take a look at the forecast to see what the end of July holds in store.
Showers move into the region during the overnight hours into Friday morning. Once they leave, the sun will peak through allowing for daytime heating to occur. With this, it’ll remain humid, and the threat for afternoon thunderstorms will arise. Highs on Friday look to be in the mid to upper 80s. Another area of showers could approach the area into Saturday, but current computer forecast guidance disagrees on the exact timing of these showers. The Canadian CMC model shows showers entering our area during the afternoon hours, thus keeping our highs near 80°. The American GFS model has the rain arriving Saturday night, allowing temperatures to climb to the mid to upper 80s. With this discrepancy in the forecast, I’ll call for highs near 84° with mostly cloudy skies and a chance for an afternoon shower, but the chance increases during the evening and overnight hours.
As for Sunday, expect partly to mostly cloudy skies. We should remain dry. Highs on Sunday will be in the mid-80s after a morning low in the low 70s. The workweek will start out on the unsettled side as an area of low pressure forms offshore while another area of low pressure forms over southern Ontario or western New York. These systems will allow for showers and cloudy skies to be in the forecast. Highs will be in the mid-70s. The unsettled weather will continue into Tuesday, and the showers could fall heavily at times. Highs look to be below average as they will be stuck in the low 70s. Be aware that if the rain is heavier, highs could be stuck in the 60s. So keep that in mind.
Some guidance suggest the rain continues into Wednesday, while others suggest we dry up and clear up on Wednesday. Expect mostly cloudy skies with highs in the 70s. Nevertheless, drier weather looks to be in store for Thursday, along with highs near 80°.
Have a great weekend and week ahead!
