Forecast by Zachary Jacomowitz
Hello Rockland County! It sure hasn’t felt too much like summer lately with recent high temperatures barely making it out of the 60s. With that in mind, it is time to see how the weather will behave as we wrap up July and kick off the month of August.
On Friday, an area of low pressure will be developing to our south. This will allow rain to stay mostly to our south on Friday, but a few showers cannot be ruled out. Highs will be in the low 80s during the day. The low pressure system moves off the New Jersey coast Friday night into Saturday. Consequentially, the rain threat will mostly be confined to our south, however, some showers will remain in the forecast overnight. Lows will bottom out in the mid-60s.
Saturday will be a mostly cloudy day with a shower or two as the system continues moving offshore. Highs will top out in the mid-70s. Sunday will be the better half of the weekend. Clouds will clear overnight into Sunday, which will allow a cool and refreshing night with lows in the 50s and low humidity. Highs on Sunday will top out in the mid to upper 70s under mostly sunny skies. July will come to a conclusion on Monday on a warmer note. Expect highs in the mid to upper 80s, but fortunately the humidity will remain comfortable.
The heat will remain in place for Tuesday as August 1 will truly feel like it is part of the “dog days of summer.” Highs will top out near 90°, but similarly to Monday, the humidity will not be too bad as dew points will be near 60°, which is still in the comfortable zone. Skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Wednesday will be another hot one, with highs remaining near 90°. This is due to an area of high pressure located to our south, providing for a westerly flow. Since the flow is more westerly and not southerly, the humidity will remain rather comfortable. Skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Expect partly cloudy skies on Thursday with highs near 90° once again. A cold front begins to approach from the north later in the day, so humidity values will start to increase.
All in all, a more summer-like pattern returns to finish out July and start August. With that in mind, Sunday is the better half of the weekend, but still, have a great weekend and Happy August!
