TRI-STATE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS CAN NOW SIGN-UP FOR CLASSROOM WEATHER PRESENTATIONS LED BY NBC 4 NEW YORK

Augmenting existing earth science instruction while providing children with a โ€œreal worldโ€ look at weather forecasting, NBC 4 New York / WNBC and Telemundo 47 / WNJU this week announced the launch ofย Weather Kids (Niรฑos del Tiempoย in Spanish), a new initiative designed to build early awareness of important weather terminology and the dangers of severe weather. โ€œOur StormTeam4 weather experts are committed to keeping viewers and their families safe and informed. They also know that it is never too early to learn important weather terms and how prepare for severe weather, regardless of the season. This is why WNBC has designed this exciting new community initiative, which will offer students real-world weather instruction led by the names they know and trust,โ€ said Eric Lerner, president and general manager of NBC 4 New York.ย 

The launch of this new program coincides with the height of the Atlantic hurricane season and will continue through the winter months. Through monthly visits scheduled individually by station and in duopoly, StormTeam4 and La Autoridad en El Tiempoย team members will demonstrate how they track and forecast local weather. They will also offer important tips for staying safe regardless of the outside conditions and answer questions from students.

Earlier this year, NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47 launchedย Storm Tracker 4ย /ย Tele Doppler 47 con tecnologรญa S band,ย the only commercial high-frequency S-Band dual polarization fixed Doppler weather radar operating in the Northeast.ย
