Candidates for NYS Supreme Court

Linda Murray, Candidate for NYS Supreme Court, 9th Judicial District (Republican, Independence, Conservative)

During the past 20 years I have served as a Queens County Prosecutor, Trial Attorney, Municipal Attorney, and attorney in private practice. Currently, I am the Principal Court Attorney in Dutchess County’s busiest Court. Rated “Highly Qualified” by the Dutchess County Bar Association and “Well Qualified” by Westchester Women’s Bar Association, I have the distinction to have authored 34 decisions published by NY Law Reporting Bureau. I am the only candidate who has been a prosecutor and tried violent felony offenses before jurors. I have been endorsed by all County Executives in the five counties in the 9th Judicial District: Rockland, Westchester, Putnam, Orange and Dutchess.

I am the most qualified candidate for this seat. I’ve tried criminal & civil cases. I’ve written civil & criminal appeals. I’ve argued civil & criminal appeals. I’ve practiced before Supreme Court Judges and Federal District Court Judges. I’m admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. I’ve practiced the majority of my legal career where the vacancy is (Dutchess), and earned a reputation to find a fair and just result in every case, no matter how hard I must work to achieve justice. The City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Rolison and the top law enforcement agent in Dutchess County, Sheriff Butch Anderson, have issued me ringing endorsements. As the daughter of a NYC police officer (41st precinct/ESU), I am proud to have also earned the endorsement of law enforcement organizations throughout the 9th JD, and the endorsement of major labor unions, like the Hudson Valley Building and Construction Trades Council, the Labor Federation AFL-CIO, and SEIU 704. Likewise, I enjoy the support of former NYS Court of Appeals Judge Albert Rosenblatt, former NYS Supreme Court Justice Ralph A. Beisner, and former Poughkeepsie City Court Judge John Garrity.

Born and raised in Dutchess County, my husband and I are raising our two children in Dutchess County, where I have long served as a civic and community volunteer and leader. I am especially proud of my work for the American Cancer Society, as Co-Chair for Relay for Life, and travel coach for Youth Soccer.

Judge Christi J. Acker, Candidate for NYS Supreme Court, 9th Judicial District (Democratic, Working Families)

Currently running for the Supreme Court in the Ninth Judicial District, Judge Christi J. Acker brings to the bench almost 25 years of legal experience as a town judge, court attorney, and litigator. Judge Acker is presently serving her 10th year as Town Justice for the town of Pine Plains in Dutchess County, having won election for three consecutive terms—each time running on both the Republican and Democratic lines.

She has also been employed for the last 16 years as a Principal Court Attorney to County Court/Acting Supreme Court Justice James T. Rooney in Putnam County. Prior to this, Acker was engaged as a litigator in private practice, appearing in all levels of courts across the Ninth Judicial District. She has also worked part-time for the Putnam County Department of Social Services, where she prosecuted cases involving the abuse and neglect of children.  Throughout her legal career, Christi has worked hard to ensure that all participants in the legal process have a voice. As a judge and a law clerk, she knows the importance of giving all litigants an opportunity to be heard, so that a fair and impartial decision can be made.
