Congrats to St.Gregory CYO State Champs

5th Grade Boys INFO:

St. Gregory fifth grade boys basketball team beat Sacred Heart of Staten Island 41-36 in the Archdiocesan of New York CYO State Championship at Mt.St.Michael Academy in the Bronx last Saturday, March 17. This was the second consecutive season the team has won the state championship. St.Gregory is based in Garnerville.

Before the championship win, St. Gregory defeated St.Francis of West Nyack in the Rockland County Championship and then defeated St.Thomas of Cornwall (Orange County) and St.Columba of Hopewell Junction (Dutchess County) to win the upstate CYO finals in regional upstate competition. St.Gregory´s finished the season with a final record of 20-1.

The team roster includes: Joseph Castaldo, Ryan Maltbie, Ryan Jackson, Jake Harold, Nick Becker, Ryan Sidoti, Michael Rooney, Joseph Savignano, Jaden Quezada, Matthew Bertolino, Sean Radwan. The head coach was Tom Jackson and he was assisted by Hugh Harold. St.Gregory CYO Coordinator is Tom O´Grady.

St.Gregory eighthth grade girls basketball team also won a state championship, defeating OLPH/St.Matthew Parish of Ardsley 34-16 in the Archdiocesan of New York CYO State Championship at Mt.St.Michael Academy in the Bronx on Saturday March 17.

Prior to the big win, St.Gregory defeated St.Aedans of Nanuet in the Rockland County Championship and St.Patrick of Woodbury (Orange County) and St.Columba of Hopewell Junction (Dutchess County) to win the upstate CYO finals in regional upstate competition. St.Gregory´s finished the season with a final undefeated record of 17-0.

The team roster included Olivia Boyd, Jenna Castaldo, Riley Conlan, Megan Dwyer, Neive Fausel, Cameran Gavan, Julia Gill, Grace Mallozzi, and Irene Maurer

The head coach was Michael Gill and he was assisted by Christa Mallozzi and Justin Bentley. St.Gregory CYO Coordinator is Tom O´Grady.

The Archdiocese of New York CYO has over 15,000 participants competing over 6 months from 10 counties- Rockland, Orange, Sullivan, Westchester, Putnam, Staten Island, Bronx, Manhattan, Dutchess, and Ulster.
