Nyack Public School Music Departmentโ€™s recent trip to Boston for participation in an annual awards competition was a resounding success as the school returned home with 21 different awards! All five participating classes (Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Advanced Choir, and Womenโ€™s Vocal Ensemble) earned First Place with Gold ratings.ย Additionally, each ensemble won the Adjudicator Award for outstanding musical performance in their category. Chamber Orchestra received the Outstanding Orchestra award, Jazz Ensemble received the Outstanding Band award, and Advanced Choir received the Outstanding Choral award – these were given to the highest ranked ensemble in each category.

Furthermore, Nyack High School won the Sweepstakes Award in the Choral and Instrumental categories. This recognition is awarded to the schools that brought two ensembles in each category with the highest total combined score. This culminated in Nyack bringing home the Outstanding Ensemble Award, which is given to the school with the highest total overall ratings regardless of school size and qualified Nyack Music Ensembles to attend the National Invitational Festival of Gold next year
Maestro Awards, given to outstanding soloists, were presented to senior Nancy Hamlin-Ryan (voice), senior Gerald Osborne (drumset), senior Skyler Alexandre (saxophone), junior Coby Petricone-Berg (saxophone), and junior Sam Abers (trombone).
The Nyack High School Music Department released a statement indicating they are “so very proud of the accomplishments of our young musicians.” Music Department Chair Mr. Lucero, Orchestra Director Dr. Yi, Band Director Mr. Humphrey, and Vocal Director Mr. Coon extended their thanks to the Nyack School District, Nyack Board of Education, Elementary & Middle School Music Department, MusicWorks, and our Nyack Community Parents & Families for their continued support of the Nyack Music Program.
