DTE festival canceled; Native Noise 3 headlined by Captain Hook set to kick off at Echo Lake, Afton, New York tomorrow

Summer festival season is reaching its crescendo. Get your kicks in before the days get shorter and the nights get cold.

August 17 – 19 was originally going to be a weekend with competing EDM festivals in upstate New York, but the Down to Earth (DTE) festival in Garrattsville, NY was called off reportedly due to flooding earlier in the week. As it stands on Thursday, August 16 the weather has cleared and Spirit Tribe’s Native Noise III  at Echo Lake in Afton, NY is all engines go.

After successful festivals in 2016 and 2017, Spirit Tribe brought Native Noise back this year with a headliner sure to draw a bigger crowd: Captain Hook. The psytrance-oriented festival also will feature a second stage this year with drum and bass and dub step acts offering a diversity of EDM genres.

Spirit Tribe, which is headed by veteran producer Eric Allen and his significant other Mickayla Miner, describes Native Noise as, “The perfect place for anyone to truly be themselves. If you like dressing up and getting into character you are our best friend. No Joke. Do you love dancing in the front row like your life dependS on it? Yep, you’re our best friend. Even if you just like to kick back and relax we already love you ;).”

What mood should you expect at the party? Tribe leaders say, “Be prepared to just be you in a non-judgemental paradise in the middle of the woods in upstate NY surrounded by a beautiful Lake, wilderness, and beautiful people.”

Having attended the festival in 2017, I can confirm those sentiments. The 2108 rendition of Native Noise already figured to be even bigger and better, but the festival could see a boost in attendance from disappointed DTE ticketholders.

Allen and Miner welcome any and all newcomers and DTE holdovers to check out their scene. Great music and friendly souls are guaranteed. The Echo Lake venue, rehabilitated in 2013 by former town supervisor John Phelan has charm and natural beauty.
