RAMAPO YOUTH GYMNASTICS COACH PLEADS GUILTY TO SEXUALLY ABUSING YOUNG STUDENTS

Acting Rockland County District Attorney Kevin Gilleece today announced that Joseph Lewin (DOB 05/16/51)ย of 27 Mitchell Place, Port Chester, New York, has admitted to all of the allegations in the indictment andย ultimately pled guilty to:

๏‚ท Course of Sexual Conduct against a Child in the Second Degree, a class โ€œDโ€ Violent Felony

District Attorney Gilleece said, โ€œAs a youth coach, this defendant held a position of power over his students. Heย abused their trust and took advantage of his vulnerable victims. He has pled guilty, waived his right to appeal andย will now be held accountable for the terrible crimes he committed. Such predatory conduct cannot go unpunished.ย He will go to State Prison where he belongs.โ€

Lewin, a longtime gymnastics coach who owned and operated โ€œJoeโ€™s Gymโ€ in Hillburn, admitted to engaging inย sexual contact with the young victims between 2007 and 2014.

Sentencing has been scheduled for September 9, 2019 before the Honorable David S. Zuckerman. Lewin facesย four years in state prison and five years post-release supervision. Upon his release, he must register as a sexย offender under the provisions of Meganโ€™s Law.

Supervising Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Parietti of the Rockland County District Attorneyโ€™s Officeย Special Victims Unit prosecuted the case.
