STAC goes green for a cause on #GIVINGTUESDAY

St. Thomas Aquinas College Public Relations students will host “#GivingTuesday Games with the Grinch” on Giving Tuesday, November 29th, 2022 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM in the Romano Student Activity Center, to raise awareness for the nonprofit
organization Keep Rockland Beautiful (KRB).
Since September, STAC students in the Content Development for Public Relations class and the Social Media Marketing class have conducted research and interviews, developed a comprehensive public relations plan and social media strategy, and organized this promotional event targeting college students (a new target market for KRB).  KRB Executive Director Sonia Cairo says, “I am so excited to be working with STAC students this semester. I love their enthusiasm and am so impressed by their efforts!” Cairo continued, “We are already starting to implement the tools they have provided in our public relations and social media efforts.” The “#GivingTuesday Games with the Grinch” is the culminating event of a semester-long service learning assignment students are conducting on behalf of KRB.
Associate Communication Arts Professor Elaine Winship leads students through related projects each semester. She says, “service-learning activities and assignments allow students to build marketable skills and gain real world experience, while supporting not-for-profit organizations within the community. The immersive aspects of these experiential learning activities are intense, yet prepare students for future internships and employment opportunities.” STAC

Communication Arts student Kayla Healey says, “This service-learning experience has opened my eyes to the value and importance of public relations and social media for non-profit organizations.” Healey adds, “Helping KRB has allowed me to give back during the holidays while acquiring field experience and building marketable skills I can now add to my resume.” STAC’s “#GivingTuesday Games with the Grinch” will feature KRB educational games, free refreshments, a cup pong tournament umpired by the Grinch, and various raffles and fundraising opportunities. Students hope the hearts of everyone within the community will grow with joy and happiness—just like the Grinch!—as participants support Keep Rockland Beautiful.
