Murder suspect fatally shot in Hillburn

A shooting in Ramapo has left one state trooper injured and a homicide suspect dead after a car stop erupted into a shoot out.

During the afternoon of January 3, State Troopers stationed near Exit 15B on the New York State Thruway stopped a vehicle that was the subject of a ‘Be On the Lookout’ alert after reports that the car had been involved in a homicide. The operator, believed to be a murder suspect, stopped his white Mercedes Benz in the Hillburn area.

During the traffic stop the suspect and sole occupant of the vehicle began shooting at State Troopers, who returned fire.  The suspect is deceased.

The suspect was first spotted in the area of Saugerties New York, driving southbound on the Thruway at around 1 p.m.

RCT will provide further updates online and in next week’s edition as police continue their investigation into the incident.
