K9 Unit sniffs out domestic abuse suspect

During the evening hours of Thursday January 11, the Clarkstown Police Department responded to a residence in Nanuet for reports of a physical altercation between two adult males in the street.

The police investigation at the scene indicated that the male suspect had an argument with his father that turned physical inside their home. As the argument continued the son did punch his father several times in the face with a closed fist. Officers on scene attempted to have both men exit the home through the front door, but the son was impeding his fathers exit. The father managed to exit the home through a rear door and came immediately over to officers, while his son (suspect) exited through the same door and ran from the scene. Additional arriving officers began canvassing the area for the suspect, while others provided medical attention to the father. Canvassing officers requested both CPD UAV (Drone Unit) and K9 to help assist in the search.

A drone, as well as K9 Shadow were deployed near the scene to help aid in the search. Drone operators were able to quickly locate the suspect trekking through a marshy, wooded area. Officers while operating the drone were able to direct officers and K9 Shadow to the suspects location, where those officers were able to place him in custody without further incident. Nanuet Community Ambulance Corp treated both males at the scene for injuries they claim to have received during the initial altercation.

The 33 year old male was charged by Clarkstown Police with Criminal Mischief 3rd (fel), Assault 3rd degree (misd) and Unlawful Imprisonment 2nd degree (misd).

He was arraigned in the Town of Clarkstown Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Jail until a future court date.
