Haverstraw man pleads guilty to sexual abuse of two children

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced on April 25 that Alejandro Perez, 34, of Haverstraw, New York pleaded guilty to Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree (Class B Felony) and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree (Class D Felony) before the Honorable Anne B. Bianchi on April 16, 2024.

Starting in the summer of 2021 and throughout the course of the next two years, the defendant subjected two children to sexual abuse on multiple occasions. The sexual abuse consisted of oral sexual conduct as well as sexual contact under their clothing. The youngest victim was eleven years old, and the eldest victim was fourteen years old when the sexual abuse began. Both victims were brave enough to speak out to other family members who lived out of state and were able to notify law enforcement in Atlanta, Georgia.

The investigation was initiated by the Haverstraw Police Department, with the assistance of the City of Atlanta Police Department and the Rockland County District Attorneyโ€™s Office Special Victims Unit.

District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II said, โ€œThis case sends a clear message that if you commit heinous crimes against children, you will be held fully accountable for your actions. Children are our most precious resource, and we must do everything we can to protect them. No child should ever be victimized by an adult they trust. We will continue to support the courageous victims as this is another step in the healing process. I commend the investigation by the Haverstraw Police Department, with the assistance of the City of Atlanta Police Department and the Rockland County District Attorneyโ€™s Office Special Victims Unit.โ€

The defendant is scheduled for sentencing on July 30, 2024, before the Honorable Anne B. Bianchi. He will be sentenced to eleven years in state prison along with ten years post release supervision and will have to register as a sex offender.

The case was prosecuted by Supervising Assistant District Attorney Gerard M. Damiani III.
