Clarkstown pummeled by remnants of Tropical Storm Debby

The town of Clarkstown reported multiple road closures and over 900 homes having lost power on Sunday as Tropical Storm Debby barrelled through New York.

A number of roads including Elliots Avenue, West Nyack Way, Christian Herald Road and Ashland Avenue were rendered inaccessible by downed trees and severe flooding, and one unfortunate home owner reported having a tree land on both his house and car.ย

As the county braces for further hazardous weather Orange & Rockland Utilities is bracing their emergency response mobilization to make repairs and restore electric service as needed when the last of Tropical Storm Debby, packing strong wind gusts and heavy downpours, races through the region Friday through Saturday. O&R has secured 150 additional mutual aid workers to supplement its storm response.

At time of publication, Tropical Storm Debby isย  65 miles southeast of Charleston, South Carolina.

The system will make its way northwest and is expected to impact O&Rโ€™s service territory beginning Friday afternoon. The storm, coupled with saturated soil from thunderstorms and rain showers throughout the week, could pose significant overhead line impacts.
