Gena Lisa Lingerie: Helping Women Gain Comfort and Confidence

For many, finding a well fitting bra can be a stress inducing experience. Countless women go about their days in ill fitting, uncomfortable bras simply because they do not know where to start. Numerous are confident they are wearing the correct size – even as straps slide off and bands dig in. This is where local gem Gena Lisa of Gena Lisa Lingerie comes in. “If you’re in my shop, you’re my guest” she says, gesturing to the multitude of bras, pajamas, lingerie and more lining the walls of this cozy Nyack boutique. 

For Gena, the art of undergarments and loungewear is a lifelong love affair instilled in her by her mother. After spending rowdy days outside with her brothers there was always the peaceful ritual of getting clean and cozy for the evening. This ritual stuck with her, and it’s one she passes on to her customers. She highlights how investing in high quality, beautiful pajamas instills  “…a fine appreciation for your home and your sanity, your sanctuary. All of those things are so connected to being calm and peaceful”. She says how in our busy lives, having an evening ritual connected to changing into something beautiful and only for the home is “…another way to protect the body and let your soul rest”.

Beyond her stylish collection of pajamas and loungewear, Gena’s primary focus and biggest source of joy comes from getting women into supportive and most of all comfortable bras. “Pajamas are wonderful, but bra fitting is life changing for some”.

Gena recalled the fateful day she was professionally fitted, and of experiencing the realization that she was “…not going to be uncomfortable any longer… I had accepted that way of life, never imagining it should change. I always thought it was my body and not the garment. I blamed my body”. Gena explained how an ill fitting bra can cause actual physical ailments such as migraines, neck pain, back pain, poor posture and more as the body compensates for weight that could be managed by a proper fitting bra. For those who feel nervous or desire a higher level of privacy while being fitted, Gena happily offers private fittings. 

Gena’s work extends beyond her adorable storefront and out into the community. Every year, Gena Lisa collects clean, gently used bras to donate to women at an event held with the Shelter for Safety and Change. “Not anything is exchanged but kindness,” Gena says. She has also gone to nursing homes and assisted living communities to reach clients who may be unable to come into the brick and mortar shop.

With so much care and effort put into her community, it is no wonder that Gena Lisa Lingerie has been awarded two Best Of Intima Awards both in 2016 and 2022, and has been nominated nine times. “The mission of the Intima Retail Awards is to honor best practices within the independent intimate apparel retail business” says Francesca Spinetta, Co-owner and Editorial Director of Intima Media Group. There are over 300 independent businesses throughout North America that compete for a handful of these coveted Best of Intima Awards every year.
