Jury convicts Haverstraw man of felony sexual abuse

A Haverstraw man has been convicted following a two-week jury trial in Rockland County Court.

Elmer Oviedo-Sandoval, 47, sexually abused a nine-year-old girl from 2016 to 2019 while she lived in two separate homes in the Town of Ramapo.

He allegedly touched her inappropriately both over and under her clothing.

In 2023, when the child was 16, she disclosed the previous abuse to her mother and it was reported to Ramapo Town Police.

When sentenced in October, Oviedo-Sandoval faces up to seven years in state prison and must register as a sex offender.
