Orangetown police secure mentally disturbed man in Nyack

Orangetown Police were able to bring an incident involving an emotionally disturbed person to a peaceful conclusion on Thursday morning.

Police were called to a residence on Francis Avenue in the Village of Nyack at around 10:40 a.m. for an individual experiencing a crisis and who made threatening statements on social media to harm himself and others.

Police requested assistance from the Rockland County Behavioral Response Team and the Rockland County Rescue, Entry and Counter Terrorism Team, Rockland Paramedics Services and Nyack Community Ambulance Corps.

Road closures on Francis Avenue were temporarily put into effect for the safety of the public.

The REACT team was able to successfully remove the man from the residence and transport him to Montefiore Nyack Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
