Marilyn Mora 27, of Stony Point, New York pled guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree (Penal Law 125.20[1]) before the Honorable Anne B. Bianchi on September 10, 2024, for the killing of her mother.
On December 11, 2022, at approximately 12:45 AM, members of the Stony Point Police Department responded to a call of a stabbing in progress. When officers arrived on scene, they heard yelling from within the home. Officers then entered the home and observed the defendantโs mother laying face down in the middle of the hallway on the second floor of the residence in a pool of blood and the defendant, Marilyn Mora, being restrained by her husband at the end of the hall. The victim was pronounced dead on scene from her injuries which included a slashed throat and stab wound to the back.
Mora was detained and transported to headquarters for questioning. Detectives from the Stony Point Police Department conducted a comprehensive investigation into the murder of Doris Quispe which revealed that the stabbing was witnessed by the defendantโs husband, who was on the phone with 911 during the verbal altercation that occurred just prior to, and during the stabbing. The investigation further revealed the defendant used two kitchen knives to inflict the fatal wounds to the victim.
District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II said, โThe defendant in this case engaged in a heinous act of senseless violence that resulted in the death of her mother. She now faces the full consequences for her actions under the law with a lengthy prison term. While nothing can bring back the victim, it is my hope that this outcome provides some sense of closure and allows for the healing process to begin.โ
The defendant was remanded to Rockland County Jail and is to be sentenced to 17 years in state prison with 5 years post release supervision on December 3, 2024.
The case was being prosecuted by Executive Assistant District Attorney Graham Chapman and First Assistant District Attorney Doreen Lloyd.
