Rockland County was full of tight races the evening of November 5th. County Court Judge has gone to Democrat David M. Ascher, with a 3.8% lead. Ascher faced the race against fellow Democrat Djinsad Desir. Orangetown Town Council voted in Republican Daniel W. Sullivan with a 5.4% lead. The Clarkstown Ward 1 Town Council voted in Democrat Mark B. Licker with an astonishing 1% lead over Republican Jon. P Valentino. The Clarkstown Town Justice will be Democrat Keith Braunfotel with 57.6% of the vote over Republican Darren J. Epstein with 42.4%.ย
In Haverstraw, the Village Trustee will be Democrat Joel I. A. Santana with a 10.2% lead, and in Nyack the Village Trustee will be Democrat Lightfoot-Cooper. Lightfoot-Cooper won with only an eight vote lead over Republican Pascale Jean-Gilles. Piermont had a similarly miniscule difference between their two candidates for Piermont Village Trustee, with 23 votes pushing Democrat Nathan S. Mitchell over the line. The Sloatburg Trustee voting was more varied, but out of the three candidates, 47.4% of the vote ended up electing Republican Thomas Donnelly to the position. The Suffern Trustee will be Democrat Angel M. Houge with 51.7% of the vote over Democrat Steven Alpert.ย
In the only true landslide of the night, Democrat Justin L. Sweet was voted in with a staggering 94.4% of the vote as the Spring Valley Village Justice.
In the State Senate race between Weber and Reichlin-Melnick, Republican Weber came out on top with 52.7% of the vote over Democrat Reichlin-Melnick. Democrat Aron Weider has defeated his Republican opponent John McGowan in the Assembly for the 97th District. Weider has pulled ahead with approximately 3,900 more votes. The 97th district includes Orangetown and Ramapo.ย
Gillibrand has been elected as the U.S. Senate General with 58.4% of the vote over her opponent Sapraicone.ย
The Constitutional Amendment 1 – Equal Protection of Law, otherwise known as Prop 1, passed with an overwhelming majority with 61.8% of the vote.ย
In terms of the presidential election, Rockland County voted in favor of Trump with 55.15% of the vote, leaving Harris with 43.05%. New York as a whole voted in favor of Harris with 54.64% of the vote, and 43.26% towards Trump.ย
