The County Executive’s Corner – Honoring Our Veterans Through Operation Green Light

Reminding our veterans that they are not alone is both a powerful and essential message. This Veterans Day, in honor of all who have served to protect our freedoms, we hope our participation in Operation Green Light reinforces that their sacrifices are deeply valued and never taken for granted.

Operation Green Light aims to show unwavering support for veterans of all military conflicts while raising awareness of the unique challenges many veterans and their families face. The initiative also highlights the resources available at the county, state, and federal levels to assist those who have served.

As a tribute to our veterans, the County of Rockland illuminated the Allison-Parris Building on New Hempstead Road in New City and Building A at the Pomona Health Complex on Route 45 in green for Operation Green Light from November 4th to November 11th. While thanking our veterans for their service around Veterans Day is important, we hope that by shining a green light, Rockland County shows its veterans that they are not only appreciated but supported every day.

We recognize that those who served in combat never fully leave the battlefields behind. The experiences they endured change them in ways many of us cannot fully comprehend. Just as they felt a duty to serve our country, we have a duty to assist them in any way they need.

The transition to civilian life can present new challenges for veterans. While a range of services is available to help with this transition, navigating the system can be complex and overwhelming. The Rockland County Veterans Service Agency (VSA) is here to help veterans access critical benefits and services, including:

 Applying for VA Health Care

 Accessing G.I. Bill Benefits for education

 Assistance with VA Home Loans

 Compensation through the Veterans Administration

 Information on Camp Lejeune Contaminated Water

My administration remains steadfast in our commitment to standing by our veterans in their time of need. We encourage all veterans in need of help to contact the VSA at 845-638-5244 for assistance.

May God bless our veterans, and may God bless America.
