One killed in two-car head-on crash in Clarkstown

A two-car crash at the intersection of Route 304 and Second Street in New City Monday night claimed one life and injured two other people.

Clarkstown Police said preliminary investigation revealed that the driver and sole occupant of a 2010 Hyundai sedan, a 35-year-old Ohio man, turned onto Route 304 traveling northbound in the southbound lanes.

The Hyundai struck a 2013 BMW head-on that was traveling southbound.

The BMW was occupied by an 18-year-old male driver and his 16-year-old female front seat passenger.

The occupants of the BMW were extricated and transported to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the Hyundai, whose identity was withheld pending notification of relatives, was pronounced dead at the scene, Clarkstown Police said Tuesday.

Police said the collision occurred with such force that it sent the Hyundai into the center median, while the BMW was forced onto the shoulder of the southbound lanes.
